As the Indian skincare market continues to evolve, consumers are becoming increasingly interested in ingredient-led, evidence-based products that address specific skin concerns. At the same time, navigating formulations, active ingredients and product choices can often be confusing, particularly for those looking to build simple yet effective skincare routines.

SkinInspired was created with the aim of addressing this gap by combining science-backed formulations with accessible skincare solutions designed with Indian consumers in mind. With Dr. Prashant Agrawal leading the formulation approach, the brand focuses on developing products around specific skin concerns while emphasizing transparency and practical everyday use.

Having crossed 2 lakh customers, SkinInspired is now looking toward its next phase of growth while continuing to focus on formulation, consumer education and evidence-based skincare. In this interview with A2Z Insider, the team discusses the thinking behind the brand, its approach to product development and its vision for the future of skincare in India.

1. SkinInspired was built around making advanced, science-backed skincare simpler and more accessible. What gap in the Indian skincare market led to the brand’s creation?

Answer– When we started SkinInspired, we felt there was a gap between what modern skincare science could offer and what was accessible to consumers in India. There were many products available, but understanding what ingredients and formulations were actually right for a particular concern was not always easy.

Another challenge was that many well-formulated, high-efficacy products were imported and therefore quite expensive. We wanted to bring that level of formulation and efficacy to Indian consumers at a more accessible price.

We wanted to make skincare effective, easy to understand, and accessible, with every ingredient and formulation chosen with a clear purpose.

We also felt that Indian consumers have their own skincare needs. Our climate, sun exposure, lifestyle, and everyday skincare habits can be quite different from other markets. So rather than simply following global skincare trends, we wanted to understand the science and use it to create products that make sense for Indian consumers.

That thinking has remained at the heart of SkinInspired as we have grown.

2. With Dr. Prashant Agrawal leading the formulation, how do you balance clinical efficacy with products that are practical for everyday skincare routines?

Answer– For us, efficacy is important, but a product also needs to be practical enough for everyday use. Dr. Prashant brings a dermatologist-first approach to formulation, where we look at the ingredients, their concentrations, and how they work together.

We spend a lot of time on formulation and testing to make sure each product is both effective and easy to incorporate into a daily routine. The aim is to create products that solve skin concerns without making skincare unnecessarily complicated.

3. SkinInspired allows consumers to shop by skin type as well as concerns such as acne, pigmentation, dullness and anti-ageing. How has this concern-led approach shaped your product development?

Answer– Our approach has always been to start with the skin concern rather than simply starting with a product category.

Consumers don’t necessarily think, “I need a serum.” They think, “I have pigmentation,” “my skin is breaking out,” or “my skin looks dull.” That insight has influenced how we think about both product development and how we help consumers navigate skincare.

When we develop a product, we begin by understanding the underlying concern, the ingredients and mechanisms that can address it, and how we can formulate those ingredients into a product that people can realistically use. It also helps us build more purposeful routines instead of encouraging consumers to use multiple products without understanding why they need them.

Ultimately, we want skincare to feel less confusing. Consumers should be able to identify their concern, understand what their skin needs, and make an informed product choice.

4. Transparency is one of SkinInspired’s core values. How do you ensure consumers can genuinely understand and trust the ingredients and claims behind your products?

Answer– Transparency starts with being clear about what is in a product and why it is there. We believe consumers should not have to rely only on marketing language to understand their skincare.

Our formulations are built around purposeful ingredients, and we try to communicate their role, the intended benefit, and the way the product fits into a routine as clearly as possible. We also distinguish between what is supported by formulation and testing.

For us, science-backed skincare is not about using complicated terminology. It is about doing the work behind the formulation and then communicating it in a way that consumers can understand.

Trust is built over time through consistency. It comes from the quality of the products, the transparency of the information we provide, and, most importantly, whether the products deliver a meaningful experience for the people using them.

5. With 2 lakh+ customers and an expanding portfolio, what is the next step in SkinInspired’s journey to make evidence-based skincare more accessible in India?

Answer– The next phase for us is about taking the same science-first philosophy to a much larger audience.

Crossing 2 lakh customers is an important milestone, but we see it more as validation of the need for what we are building than as an endpoint. There is still a very large section of Indian consumers looking for effective skincare but finding the category confusing, expensive or difficult to navigate.

We want to continue investing in formulation, research, education and better consumer experiences while expanding the range thoughtfully. Our focus will remain on solving real skin concerns rather than simply adding more products to the portfolio.

The larger vision is to make evidence-based skincare a more accessible part of everyday life in India. If we can make consumers more informed about their skin, help them choose products more confidently, and give them formulations they can trust, then we believe we are building SkinInspired in the right direction.

SkinInspired’s approach reflects the growing emphasis on ingredient awareness, targeted skincare and accessible formulations in India. By focusing on specific skin concerns, purposeful formulations and clearer communication around ingredients, the brand aims to simplify the way consumers approach their daily skincare routines.

As SkinInspired moves forward after reaching more than 2 lakh customers, its focus remains on developing thoughtfully formulated products, expanding consumer education and making evidence-based skincare easier to understand and incorporate into everyday life.
