Ukrainian-born pianist and arranger Anna Demis has built an international career that spans classical performance, contemporary music, luxury events, and music publishing.
Classically trained with a master’s degree in piano performance and pedagogy, Demis spent several years performing professionally in Dubai before relocating to New York City. Her career has included appearances at luxury hotels, international weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations, requiring her to develop an unusually broad repertoire across classical music, pop, jazz, film music, and international styles.
It was during her years performing in Dubai that Demis encountered a problem that would eventually lead to an important part of her work as an arranger.
Discovering a Gap in the Sheet-Music Market
Dubai’s multicultural wedding industry meant that Demis frequently performed for Indian, Arabic, and international families. Couples often requested Bollywood hits, Hindi love songs, and popular Arabic music for ceremonies and receptions.
But when Demis searched online for piano sheet music, she repeatedly encountered the same problem: for many of these songs, no piano arrangements were available at all.
At the time, the digital sheet-music market was heavily concentrated on Western classical and English-language popular music. Bollywood and Arabic repertoire for solo piano remained comparatively underrepresented.
“It wasn’t that I couldn’t find an arrangement I liked,” Demis recalls. “Very often, I couldn’t find any piano sheet music for the song. But I still had to perform it for the wedding.”
Her solution was simple: she began creating the music herself.
Demis listened closely to original recordings, identifying melodies, harmonies, instrumental lines, and rhythmic details before reconstructing them for solo piano. Her goal was not simply to produce basic transcriptions, but to create complete, performance-ready arrangements that preserved the recognizable character and emotion of the original songs.
Initially, the arrangements were created only for her own performances.
But the requests kept coming.
One wedding led to another song, and another event required several more. Over time, Demis built a substantial personal library of Bollywood, Hindi, Arabic, and international piano arrangements.
From Private Arrangements to a Published Catalog
Eventually, Demis began publishing her arrangements commercially, making repertoire she had originally created for her own performances available to other pianists.
Her catalog grew to include dozens of professionally published arrangements, with Bollywood and Arabic music becoming an important part of her work.
The response demonstrated that the problem Demis had encountered was not unique to her.
Other professional pianists, teachers, students, and musicians were searching for the same repertoire.

Bollywood represents one of the world’s largest entertainment industries, while Arabic popular music reaches audiences throughout the Middle East, North Africa, and international diaspora communities. Yet historically, musicians searching for professionally arranged piano editions of many well-known songs from these traditions had far fewer options than those searching for Western repertoire.
Demis helped address that imbalance.
By creating and publishing a substantial body of piano arrangements, she contributed to expanding the international repertoire available through the digital sheet-music market.
Her work also created a bridge between cultures.
A Bollywood song she originally arranged for an Indian wedding in Dubai could later be purchased by a pianist in the United States, Europe, the Middle East, or elsewhere and performed at another wedding, taught to a student, or played simply for personal enjoyment.
Demis’ background as a professional performer has remained central to that work.
