Bengaluru based biotechnology enterprise String Bio has accelerated the commercial rollout of its gas fermentation platform designed to transform greenhouse gases into high quality protein ingredients. Founded by molecular biologist Dr Ezhil Subbian and technology executive Vinod Kumar, the company harnesses potent methane emissions from agricultural waste and industrial processes to build sustainable inputs for global feed and food supply chains.
The proprietary platform relies on biological methanotrophic microbes inside specialized bioreactors. By feeding captured methane and oxygen directly into the culture along with essential nutrients, the organisms multiply rapidly and synthesize complete, digestible proteins rich in essential amino acids. The resulting biomass is harvested, dried, and processed into premium animal nutrition supplements suitable for aquaculture, poultry, and livestock farming.
Conventional protein cultivation for animal feed depends heavily on resource heavy commodities such as wild caught fishmeal and arable soy crops, both of which drive deforestation and marine depletion. By decoupling protein manufacturing from arable acreage and freshwater reserves, String Bio provides a circular solution that mitigates atmospheric warming while strengthening livestock feed security. Every ton of microbial protein synthesized directly prevents raw methane flaring and diverts carbon into nutritional value.
Commercial validation has advanced significantly as regulatory clearances expand across international markets. Recent manufacturing upgrades at the primary production facility have allowed the startup to demonstrate scalable throughput with consistent yield metrics. Company leadership confirmed that strategic distribution alliances will soon bring these methane derived nutritional supplements to commercial fish farms and feed manufacturers across Asia and Europe.
Subbian and Kumar emphasized that transforming wasted industrial carbon into vital agricultural feedstocks represents a fundamental shift in manufacturing philosophy. As global climate targets demand aggressive reductions in methane releases, String Bio plans to partner with biogas generators, landfill operators, and energy producers to deploy modular synthesis units at point sources worldwide.
