In a major leap for indigenous aerospace and defense technology, Hyderabad-based startup Apollyon Dynamics has officially entered the India Book of Records after its electric multirotor interceptor drone, the Ahuti Mk II, achieved a certified top speed of 498 kilometers per hour.

Unlike conventional multirotor drones engineered for photography, high-altitude surveillance, or cargo delivery, the Ahuti Mk II was built with a singular mission: pure speed for kinetic interception. Designed to chase down hostile drones and fast-moving loitering munitions before they reach their targets, the system offers an agile, cost-effective countermeasure against modern aerial threats.

Closing the Gap at Blistering Velocity

The achievement marks an extraordinary technological leap in a very short development cycle. The platform evolved from an earlier prototype that achieved approximately 300 kilometers per hour in 2025. Rather than simply retrofitting existing components, the engineering team completely redesigned the airframe and propulsion architecture to withstand the aerodynamic stresses of near-500 kmph flight.

Over the course of under a year, the drone gained an additional 200 kilometers per hour, boosting its maximum certified velocity by roughly 66 percent. Company founders emphasized that speed is not merely a figure on a spec sheet, but the crucial factor determining whether an incoming threat is intercepted in time or manages to breach perimeter defenses.

Asymmetric Warfare and Low Cost Interception

Modern conflicts have increasingly demonstrated the danger of massed, inexpensive loitering munitions such as Shahed-style attack drones. Traditional air defense systems, while effective, frequently rely on interceptor missiles that cost exponentially more than the drones they target.

The Ahuti Mk II directly addresses this economic asymmetry. By pairing rapid speed with precision targeting and autonomous flight profiles, the interceptor aims to neutralize affordable hostile platforms without forcing ground commanders to expend high-value missile batteries.

Engineered by Pilots and Specialists

The interceptor was brought to life by an engineering and piloting team comprising Aman Virani, Manas Vichare, and Ishaan Suri. Virani, an experienced high-speed drone pilot, played a central role in live flight testing, ensuring the transition from simulated fluid dynamics to real-world flight dynamics matched operational requirements.

Incubated at BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus and incorporated in 2025, Apollyon Dynamics has already deployed unmanned systems in field trials with frontline Indian Army formations. Operating under the guiding philosophy that precision minimizes unnecessary harm, the company aims to position unmanned hardware at the first point of hostile contact to keep military personnel out of harm’s way.

With no other known multirotor unmanned aircraft in South Asia matching the 498 kmph threshold, the Ahuti Mk II establishes a formidable technical benchmark as the startup sets its sights on broader, long-range propulsion systems for the future.
