From traditional grains to modern nutrition, Milleyum is reimagining how people consume millets by bringing together taste, convenience and nutritional value. In this exclusive interview, the founder of Milleyum shares the inspiration behind the brand, the journey of product development, the importance of consumer feedback and the vision to make millet-based nutrition accessible to modern consumers.

As awareness of healthy eating continues to grow, the challenge lies in turning nutritional awareness into everyday habits. Milleyum aims to bridge this gap by combining eight grains with protein, fibre, prebiotics and probiotics in a convenient format designed for contemporary lifestyles. With familiar flavours such as Chocolate and Caramel Biscotti, the brand seeks to make healthier choices more enjoyable and easier to sustain.

In this conversation, the founder reflects on the idea that sparked Milleyum, the lessons learned from consumer trials in Kochi and the ambition to build a trusted name in everyday nutrition.

1. Milleyum aims to make millets a convenient part of modern daily nutrition. What led you to identify the gap between people’s awareness of millet’s benefits and their willingness to consume them regularly?

Answer: One thing I noticed was that people were becoming more aware of millets and their nutritional benefits, but that awareness wasn’t necessarily translating into everyday consumption. People knew millets were good for them, but convenience and taste often became barriers.

We felt there was a gap between knowing what is healthy and actually enjoying it enough to make it a habit. That was where the idea for Milleyum came from. We wanted to make millets easier to consume in a format that fits naturally into people’s daily routines, without asking them to change their habits completely.

The goal was to create something that people would genuinely enjoy having, rather than something they consumed only because it was healthy.

2. Milleyum brings together eight grains along with protein, fibre, probiotics and prebiotics. What was the thought process behind developing this combination, and what did you want the final product to deliver beyond basic nutrition?

Answer: For us, the idea was never just to put a few healthy ingredients together and call it a nutritious product. We wanted to build on the nutritional value of millets by combining different grains with protein, fibre, prebiotics and probiotics to create a convenient everyday nutrition option.

At the same time, we knew that nutrition alone wouldn’t be enough. The product had to taste good, be easy to prepare and fit into an existing routine. We didn’t want people to feel like they were compromising on taste just because they were choosing something healthier.

Ultimately, we wanted Milleyum to make everyday nutrition a little easier and more enjoyable, without making it feel like a task.

3. You gathered feedback from over 250 people in Kochi and refined the formulation through multiple iterations. What were the most important insights you gained from consumers during this process?

Answer: The biggest learning was how important it is to listen to consumers instead of assuming we know what they want. We went into the process with our own ideas about what the product should be, but the feedback helped us understand what actually matters when someone tries it.

Taste, texture and the overall drinking experience were particularly important. A product can have a good nutritional profile, but if someone doesn’t enjoy drinking it, they probably won’t come back to it regularly.

We used the feedback from our consumer trials to refine the formulation through multiple iterations. The experience taught us that developing a food product is about much more than getting the formulation right. You also have to understand how people experience it in their everyday lives, and that learning continues to shape Milleyum.

4. Milleyum uses familiar flavours such as Caramel Biscotti and Chocolate to make millet-based nutrition more enjoyable. How important was taste in changing the way consumers perceive and consume millets?

Answer: Taste was extremely important because we didn’t want Milleyum to be something people consumed only because it was healthy. We wanted them to enjoy it in its own right.

When people hear about a millet-based drink, they may expect something very different from the beverages they are used to. We wanted to challenge that perception by bringing millets into familiar flavours such as Chocolate and Caramel Biscotti.

Our belief is that healthy eating becomes much easier to sustain when the food itself is enjoyable. You shouldn’t have to constantly remind yourself to consume something just because it is good for you.

That is why we spent so much time refining the formulation and gathering feedback. We want people to choose Milleyum for its taste as much as for its nutritional value.

5. Having taken Milleyum from a Kerala-based idea to a product designed for everyday consumers, what is your larger vision for making millet-based nutrition a natural part of modern lifestyles?

Answer: We see Milleyum as more than just one product. Our larger vision is to build a brand that makes traditional ingredients relevant to the way people live today.

Kerala is where we started, but we want to reach consumers across India and eventually build a much wider presence. We believe millets have a lot of potential, but for that potential to translate into regular consumption, products need to meet modern consumers’ expectations around taste, convenience and quality.

We are also working on expanding our product range, including millet-based snacks, to explore more ways of bringing these ingredients into people’s everyday lives.

As a founder, I know building a brand takes time, and we are still learning, improving our products and understanding our customers. Our goal is to build Milleyum into a trusted name in everyday nutrition, making millets simple, enjoyable and accessible to more people.

Bringing Tradition and Modern Nutrition Together

Milleyum’s journey reflects a broader opportunity in the evolving food and nutrition space: making traditional ingredients more accessible without losing sight of the needs of modern consumers. By focusing on taste, convenience and continuous product improvement, the brand aims to encourage people to look at millets not simply as a health-conscious alternative, but as an enjoyable part of their everyday routine.

As Milleyum continues to explore new products and opportunities for growth, its vision remains centred on a simple idea: making everyday nutrition easier, tastier and more accessible, one serving at a time.
