When aromatherapy was still relatively unfamiliar in India, Blossom Kochhar saw an opportunity to bring the power of essential oils and natural ingredients into everyday beauty and wellness. What began with experimenting with essential oil blends during facials and beauty treatments gradually evolved into Aroma Magic, a brand built around the philosophy of taking nature “from Earth to Bottle.” Today, with more than 170 skin, hair and wellness products and a presence across 100+ cities and international markets, the brand continues to evolve while staying rooted in its founding belief in nature, aromatherapy and holistic wellbeing.

As three generations of the Kochhar family work together to shape its future, Blossom Kochhar reflects on the beginnings of Aroma Magic, the philosophy behind its formulations, and the next chapter of the brand.

Q1. Aroma Magic began in the 1990s, when aromatherapy was still relatively unfamiliar in India. What did you see in aromatherapy at that time that convinced you it could become a meaningful part of everyday beauty and wellness?

Blossom Kochhar: When I started using aromatherapy in my work, it was still something very new in India. I would use different essential oil blends during facials and beauty treatments, first on myself and then with my clients. What fascinated me was that people could actually feel the difference. Their skin looked better, but there was also something about the aroma that made the whole experience more calming and uplifting.

My clients would often ask me, “What have you used on my skin?” or “What is this beautiful fragrance?” They were curious because they could see and feel the difference.

Those reactions made me realise that aromatherapy should not remain something available only in a professional salon or treatment room. I wanted people to be able to experience the goodness of nature in their own homes.

That was really the thought behind Aroma Magic. I believed then, and I still believe today, that when you combine the right natural ingredients with the right knowledge, you can enhance beauty while also creating a beautiful sense of wellbeing.

Q2. The brand has grown from its early aromatherapy roots into 170+ skin, hair and wellness products, while keeping its “Earth to Bottle” philosophy. How have you protected that original belief as the brand has expanded?

Blossom Kochhar: For me, the biggest challenge has never been creating more products. It has been growing without losing the reason why I started.

Over the last 35 years, everything around us has changed consumer preferences, technology, beauty trends and the way people understand skincare. Naturally, Aroma Magic has also evolved with the times. But there is one thing I have never been willing to compromise on: my faith in nature and aromatherapy.

Even when I am working on a completely new product, somewhere in my mind I always go back to the same question where is the essence of aromatherapy in this?

I have always enjoyed experimenting. There were times when I would spend hours studying oils, extracts and combinations, trying to understand what worked beautifully together and what did not. I never wanted to simply follow a trend because everyone else was doing it.

For me, every product has to have a reason to exist.

I think that is how we have managed to keep the soul of Aroma Magic alive while allowing the brand to grow. We have changed with the world, but we have not changed our faith in nature.

Q3. Aroma Magic describes its formulations as a blend of essential oils, plant extracts, aromatherapy and Ayurveda. How do you decide which traditional ingredients and modern formulation approaches belong together in a product?

Blossom Kochhar: I have always believed in being a student. I have a double doctorate in aromatherapy, and I have spent many years studying ingredients and aromatherapy. But honestly, I still feel I am learning every day.

When I develop a product, I don’t choose an ingredient simply because it is popular. I like to understand it what it does, how it behaves and how it works with the other ingredients.

I experiment a lot. Sometimes I create a combination and then go back and change it because I feel something is missing. Even a small change can make a big difference.

For me, it has always been about bringing together knowledge from different traditions and creating something that feels good, works well and gives you a meaningful beauty and wellness experience.

And after all these years, that curiosity is still there. I still love discovering something new.

Q4. With Samantha Kochhar and Aryman Kochhar Sapru now helping take the brand forward, how are you bringing a new-generation perspective to Aroma Magic while preserving your original philosophy?

Blossom Kochhar: This is probably one of the most beautiful things happening in my life the three generations working together.

Of course, when three generations sit together, we don’t always agree! We have our discussions and sometimes our clashes because we naturally look at things from very different perspectives. But that is also what makes it interesting.

I bring the experience of having built the foundation of Aroma Magic and years of understanding aromatherapy and beauty. Aryman brings a completely different energy. He understands technology, new trends and the way the younger consumer thinks and shops today.

Samantha has a very important role in keeping the connection between the two. She understands the heritage of the brand but is also very aware of how the consumer and the market are changing.

I actually enjoy listening to both of them because they sometimes make me look at something I have been doing for years in a completely different way.

At the same time, I remind them that trends will keep changing, but the soul of the brand should not.

I think that is the beauty of three generations working together we challenge each other, but ultimately we are working towards the same thing.

Q5. From pioneering aromatherapy in India to building a presence across 100+ cities and international markets, what does the next chapter of the Aroma Magic story look like?

Blossom Kochhar: When I look back at where we started, it makes me very emotional. At that time, I was simply passionate about aromatherapy and wanted more people to experience what I had experienced through my work.

I never imagined that one day that small idea would grow into a brand with such a wide presence and so many people connected to it.

Today, when I see Samantha and Aryman taking the brand forward, I feel reassured. They understand that they have inherited something that has taken decades to build, but they also know that they cannot simply live in the past. They have to build for the future.

Another chapter close to my heart is ERTH, a part of Blossom Kochhar Aroma Magic and India’s first professional aromatherapy-based skincare and grooming range for men. We wanted to bring the power of aromatherapy into men’s grooming through high-performance formulations that cleanse, hydrate, nourish and detoxify. For me, ERTH is about making grooming more than a routine; it is a moment of calm, confidence and self-care.

For me, that is what the next chapter is about: respecting what we have built, while continuing to experiment, evolve and make aromatherapy relevant to the next generation.

From introducing aromatherapy to a wider Indian audience to building a multi-generational beauty and wellness brand, Blossom Kochhar’s journey reflects a consistent belief in the relationship between nature, beauty and wellbeing. As Aroma Magic enters its next phase, the focus remains on carrying its heritage forward without becoming defined by the past. With experience, innovation and a new generation bringing fresh perspectives to the table, the brand’s story continues to evolve while its core belief in the power of nature remains at the heart of it all.
